PERFORMANCE DATA OF THE HUMID MODULES

With the material composition and the unique production process, enormous volumes of moisture can be absorbed, stored and emitted without causing swelling, shrinking or cracking.

The quality of the sorption behavior of a building material is defined by the sorption class. The sorption classes range from class I (worst) to class III (best). To achieve the best possible class, the product must be able to absorb at least 60 g of moisture per m² within 12 hours in case of a humidity increase from 50 % r. H. to 80 % r. H.

MFPA Weimar has measured the behavior of the HUMID modules in accordance with the standards – and achieved amazing results as the following graphic shows.

Reference graphic with normal building loam, lime, and gypsum products

The graphic impressively shows that the HUMID modules by ArgillaTherm reach the best sorption class after approximately 2.5 hours already.

Sorption capacity under cooling conditions

The humidity was changed from 30 % to 40 %, which corresponds to the real conditions in cooling operation. Moreover, the air exchange rate was increased to the 8-fold and the period of 12 hours was extended to several weeks.

Long-term sorption measurements with humidity changes of 50% – 90% – 50% (relative air humidity r. H.), conducted and certified by MFPA Weimar.

In cooling operation, the sorption capacity increases over-proportionally from just below 200 g/m² to approx. 1,000 g/m². The natural air-conditioning systems become moisture magnets.

The moisture escaping when the room temperature is lowered will be quickly absorbed to a sufficient extent. The enormous moisture storage ensures an unrivaled high cooling capacity and uninterrupted cooling phases. At our latitude and under normal conditions, cooling can be permanently operated with a supply temperature of 6 °C below the dew point without causing over-moistening in the room or the formation of condensate on the surface.

Reliable humidity management without the need of system technology and only with the power of nature!

Simulation of the humidity behavior in the room

For the humidity simulation inside the room, Fraunhofer-Institut IBP determined the hygrothermal material parameters of the HUMID modules and implemented a corresponding data set in the WUFI program.

These are the most important characteristic values of the performance data:

  • Gross density: 1,842 kg/m³
  • Porosity (dry): 31.9 %
  • Available saturation: 319 kg/m³ (i. e. 100 % of the porosity are used)
  • Water absorption coefficient, A-value: 1.6 kg/m²√h (17-times faster than autoclaved aerated concrete)
  • Water vapor diffusion resistance: μ = 22 (23 °C/50 r. H.), μ = 10 (23 °C/93 r. H.)
