PERFORMANCE DATA OF THE HUMID MODULES
Due to the uniquely high proportion of polar 3-layer clay minerals, the moisture storage capacity is over 2 litres per square metre of module surface area. This means that enormous amounts of moisture can be absorbed, stored and released again without causing swelling, shrinkage or cracking. The incredibly large surface area of the clay minerals used, approximately 16 km² per square metre of module area, protects the modules from becoming overly moist.
In addition to these parameters, speed (the so-called w-value) also plays a decisive role. A building material with a w-value of 0.50 kg/m²√h or higher belongs to the category of ‘highly absorbent building materials’. With a measured w-value of 2.67 kg/m²√h, certified by the Fraunhofer Institute, HUMID modules are far above this, in a league of their own. This is due to the polarity of the material. The 3-layer clay minerals are electrostatically cross-linked, meaning that the clay minerals are statically charged and attract positively charged moisture from the environment like a magnet.
As soon as the relative humidity in the room rises, they react strongly absorbent and extract the excess moisture from the room air. This prevents moisture from rising towards the cold surface, thus avoiding moisture deposits in advance.
This ensures uninterrupted cooling operation without dehumidification technology in Central Europe.
The MFPA Weimar measured the moisture behaviour of the HUMID modules over a period of 12 hours in accordance with standard specifications – with astonishing results: see the following graph.
Moisture regulation with surface coating
In addition to the uncoated modules, MFPA Weimar also measured the moisture behaviour of the modules with the universal plaster and lime plaster coating developed by ArgillaTherm. The results showed that both types of coating have little influence on the uniquely high moisture regulation of the HUMID modules. These only need to be able to conduct moisture well.
Hygrothermal material characteristics of HUMID modules
The Fraunhofer Institute determined the following characteristics and certified them accordingly in its test report.
These are the most important characteristic values of the performance data:
- Gross density: 1,940 kg/m³
- Porosity (dry): 31 %
- Available saturation: 70 %
- Water absorption coefficient, A-value: 2.67 kg/m²√h
- Moisture storage capacity: > 2 Litre/m²
- Water vapor diffusion resistance: μ = 15 (23 °C/50 r. H.), μ = 7 (23 °C/93 r. H.)
