HUMID MODULES

The base material of the natural climate systems are the patented HUMID modules. They consist of 100 % natural building materials – without binders and fabric inserts. Due to its unique composition, with over 50% polar 3-layer clay minerals, it has a moisture storage capacity of over 2 litres per square metre of module surface area. In Central Europe, this is completely sufficient to ensure uninterrupted cooling operation without dehumidification technology. The incredibly large surface area of the clay minerals used, approximately 16 km² per square metre of module area, protects the modules from excessive moisture.

Enormes moisture regulation

Due to its unique composition, with over 50% polar 3-layer clay minerals, it can absorb and store enormous amounts of moisture in a very short time and release it again when needed. This happens via polarity, regardless of the room temperature. The 3-layer clay minerals are electrostatically cross-linked, meaning that the clay minerals are statically charged and attract positively charged moisture from the environment like a magnet.

This is exactly what happens when you rub a balloon against an item of clothing and it becomes statically charged. The picture shows what happens to the water jet.

The manufacturing process, developed over many years, guarantees moisture transport only within the free spaces in the modules (free saturation). This prevents swelling, shrinkage or cracking.

Production

  • All modules are produced by dry compression molding at the raw material storage site near the city of Göttingen.
  • The production line is fully automated from the raw material processing up to packing.
  • For quality assurance, a laboratory is assigned with the external factory process control.
  • All raw materials (with the exception of the fiber material) originate from own sources.
  • All HUMID modules are categorized to fire rating class A1 due to the low fiber share.
  • Since ArgillaTherm uses dry production methods, no drying energy is required as is common practice with clay building materials.
  • The production of the HUMIDs is virtually CO2-neutral. The EPD  can be found in the ÖKOBAUDAT database of the German Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction.
  • As only natural products are used, the modules can be re-ground and newly molded. This cycle is infinite. We therefore pledge to accept the return of the modules.

HUMID modules

Five module types with dimensions of 372 x 372 x 25 mm are produced. The neutral module is also available in a thickness of 15 mm.

The modules are usually laid in whole rows. If necessary, they can be cut to size or processed using an angle grinder (Festo DSC-AG-125 FH recommended), table saw or drill bits with carbide or diamond tips.
